Fun Facts about Washrooms

The TWC team have collected their favourite washroom facts for you — read on for space toilets, sanitiser, and bathtubs full of bubbles!

  1. You will spend at least 92 days using the toilet during your lifetime.

That is 2208 hours — or enough time to fly from London to Sydney and back around 100 times. The average person will use the toilet about 2500 times per year, or around 7 times per day.

  1. Approximately 70% of people in the UK don’t wash their hands properly after using the washroom.

This one made us wince, but never fear — at TWC, we can supply a huge range of sanitisers and soaps to keep your workplace sanitary.

  1. Statistically, 7 million smartphones are dropped into toilets every year…

This one also made us wince! Remember to remove your mobile from any open pockets to avoid accidents (and please sanitise your handset after using it in the bathroom).

  1. NASA created a space toilet, called the Universal Waste Management System, that was installed in the International Space Station in 2020.

The UWMS cost a staggering $23 million and took 6 years to develop. Unlike previous space toilets, that were much easier to use for men than women, NASA specifically worked with female astronauts to make the UWMS more inclusive and accessible.

  1. The oldest bathtub we have discovered so far is over 3500 years old.

This tub, made of fired clay, was made around 1500BC for the Queen of Knossos, Greece.

  1. Marilyn Monroe once allegedly took a bath in 350 bottles of expensive champagne.

This might be an urban legend, but nobody can prove it one way or another — this would be truly luxurious bathing!
